20 Home Remedies for acne
Now that we’ve understood what acne is & how your skin needs to be taken care of, I’ve made a list of easy home treatments. You can choose any 1 from these 20 and try it. Your skin type & reason for acne can be different from others in which only a dermatologist can help you out. Applying the remedies without knowing the reason or skin type may harm your skin and give you more side-effects from the same. So make sure that you look deeply into the cause of the acne & only then try any of these. If at any point you feel that your skin is burning or tingling, make sure to stop the treatment ASAP! See which of the below suits you best–
#1 Baking soda: Mix baking soda with some water as thick as a paste & apply it over the face. Let it stay for 20 minutes & wash face with lukewarm water. Baking soda would help in speeding up the healing, clearing up the skin & reducing the scars.
#2 Lemon & Eggs: Mix lemon juice & egg white together. Put on face as mask. Let dry then rinse off with warm water. The astringent properties in lemon juice will suck out some of the oil & shrink the blemish. Wash off before going in the sun or else your skin would feel sensitive.
#3 Ice magic: Place an ice-cube over your pimples one by one. It will help reduce the redness & swelling. Ice cubes also help in reducing the size of acne scars by tightening them.
#4 Cinnamon & Honey: Take 1/2 tsp of cinnamon & add to honey. Mix till it becomes a paste. Apply to the blemish and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight.
#5 Potato: Rub a slice of potato on them. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes or all day.
#6 Tomatoes: Rinse your face with fresh tomato juice. Leave this on for an hour before washing.
#7 Apples & Honey: Grate a small piece of apple into a fine mush & add honey to make a sticky paste. Apply to the pimples and leave on for 20 minutes. Wash well.
#8 Oatmeal: Mix some water with oatmeal ground in a blender from which you will get a thick paste. Apply the paste to the face as a facial mask & let it dry for 15 minutes. Wash it with lukewarm water & pat your face dry with a white clean towel. Natural properties of the oatmeal will help in cleaning up the acne & reduce scarring.
#9 Green Tea Ice Cubes: Make ice cubes out of green tea. Just rub one of the cubes over the blemish area two or three times a day. The green tea will act as an astringent, the swelling will go down & the skin will be soothed.
#10 Orange Peel: Take a small amount of orange peel, sprinkle some water on the pith-side & pound it with a clean hammer for 10 seconds. Rub the peel over the pimply areas (you could even tape it there for a few minutes for extra action).
#11 Strawberries: Strawberries are excellent for occasional pimples (or acne). Slice the top off off a strawberry (you can happily eat the fruit) & rub the small amount of flesh left at the top of the strawberry on your pimples. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and then rinse off.
#12 Garlic: Peel a clove of garlic & then mash it up well with a fork. Apply the paste to your pimples and let it set for 20 minutes.
#13 Neem powder & neem oil: Just dab the oil directly onto the blemish. Or, with the powder, mix with a tiny amount of water to form a paste & then apply to the pimply areas. Leave on all night for extra zit-busting effectiveness.
#14 Rosewater & lemon juice: If you happen to have some rosewater, take 1 tsp rosewater & 1/2 tsp lemon juice & apply to blemishes. The rosewater will help repair the skin, while the lemon juice will work as an astringent.
#15 Honey: At night, slather on a little honey over an extra-large pimple. Cover this with a band aid & sleep with the band aid on. In the morning, remove the bandage, be amazed at the lack of pimple & rinse your face well.
#16 Apple Cider Vinegar: Just dab a bit onto the affected area and let it dry. Leave it on for 20 minutes & say bye-bye to acne!
#17 Pudina: Take one leaf from a bunch of pudina, rub it well between your fingers until it’s bruised. Rub the “juice” from the mint leaf over the pimple. Leave on.
#18 Cabbage: Just mush ‘em up & rub them on the desired area. Leave the juice on for at least 30 minutes or more. Rinse off & finish with an astringent.
#19 Salt & Lemon: Dissolve 1/2 tsp salt in 2 tsp lemon juice, rub on the zit & leave on (being aware that lemon juice is also bleaching & can cause sensitivity to the sun).
#20 Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil is a common antiseptic oil which is very helpful in reducing the inflammation of acne. It is highly beneficial and it helps in reducing the redness of the acute stage of acne. Take some tea tree oil &apply it to the acne overnight.
