The easiest tips on how to lose weight naturally
Who doesn’t want to lose those extra 5 kgs? We are always just above our ideal weight and looking at the scale often gives us jolts of shock. If you are one of those who have renewed their pledge of losing weight, have a look at our best tips on how to lose weight naturally.
1. Set achievable goals
You may hear about people losing loads of weight in a week or a month, but it’s not necessary that the same will happen with you. Figure out a pace your body can handle and set goals accordingly. Instead of trying to lose 10 kgs in a month, look at losing 2-3 kgs every month for 5-6 months. Focusing on losing just 2-3 kgs will make your goal seem less daunting and easier to achieve.
If you are not the type who likes to hit the gym, go for aerobics or spinning classes. These are cardio heavy workouts, which will show results sooner. They also work to tone your body, giving you a great shape. You can also opt for power yoga or do some surya namaskaars at home. The idea is not to spend too much money, but find the perfect exercise regime that works for you!
Sleep is essential for everyone. Lack of sleep or an erratic sleep schedule affects your metabolism, which in turn affects your weight. Examine your sleep schedule, you may see the reason for weight gain. Ensure a good 8 hours sleep every night, this will even make you more productive at work!
4. Eat healthy meals at home
In today’s lifestyle what most of us don’t realize is how much processed and outside food we eat. Just switching to eating home food will cut out a lot of unnecessary calories from your diet. Outside food is cooked to cater to taste, hence the excess oil and salt – which mean extra calories. Carry a tiffin to work to cut down on your outside food consumption. Instead of cutting out carbohydrates, or trying out other fad diets, choose to eat at home.
5. Eat small frequent meals
Our sedentary lifestyle and high stress situations are a challenge to overcome. In the rat race, we forget our meal times often eating to fill up our stomachs. So here’s a very simple cure to this problem – create a schedule on the basis of what your day’s like and decide your meal times. Stick to them, no matter what. Eat small, eat nutritious, but most importantly, eat often.
6. Switch to green tea
We Indians love our chai. Chai also has the customary two spoonfuls of sugar. We know you need your cup of chai to wake up in the morning, but beyond that it is really unnecessary. Switch to green tea which is believed to improve metabolism and still gives you the satisfaction of drinking tea (once you get used to the taste).
7. Find a diet which suits YOU and not your best friend
Everybody is recommending a new type of diet these days. Every person’s body is different, so the way the diet reacts with your body is also going to be different. Instead of following a diet that your friend is recommending, visit a nutritionist who will chart out a diet a plan for you which suits you and your lifestyle. This will be more likely to give you good results than following some random diet.
Water retention is one of the leading causes of weight gain. The simplest way of battling this or preventing it is drinking lots and lots of water. If your body gets the hydration it needs, it won’t retain water and you won’t gain weight. It’s really that simple. Plus, drinking water often has benefits for your skin and hair as well. Really nothing to lose here!
9. Don’t starve yourself
Skinny may be the way to be today, it may be curvy tomorrow. Stop trying to starve yourself into a 24 waist jeans, because some bodies are just not meant for it. Being under your ideal weight gives rise to problems in menstruation and rids your skin and hair of its lustre. Starving yourself can actually make you put on weight because your body will immediately convert anything you eat to fat rather than placing it as carbohydrate, protein, vitamin and minerals. So do your body a favor and follow a healthy diet.
10. Treat yourself periodically
Just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you absolutely cannot have any sweets or that yummy looking slice of pizza. If you have been good all week, you can afford to have one ice cream or half a pastry if you are really craving for it. Treating yourself periodically keeps you motivated on the course of losing weight, so it actually does more good than harm!
Finally, be very careful of what you want. Work out to be fit and healthy, not to be skinny. Embrace yourself and your body and love it, instead of looking at it negatively. Don’t be pressured by the society to lose weight if you don’t want to. You are beautiful exactly how you are.
