Here are 10 super classy hairstyles to sport this Diwali

Your outfits are picked, your make up is bought and your lantern is up. Now all that remains is waiting for the happiest week of the year to be here! When it comes to Indian ethnic wear, our biggest blind spot is hair. We get so caught up in deciding what to wear there’s hardly any time to figure out what to do with our hair. That’s why we have put together 10 super classy hairstyles to sport this Diwali.

The clear winner for me is gorgeously styled long hair that is left open to flow the shoulders. Deep condition your hair before you try this look, to do away with frizz and fly-aways. Keep your ends looking naturally smooth and wavy. Sonam Kapoor pulls off this look as though she was born with it, and boy, does it look glamorous. If this look is a little plain for you, you can accessorize it with some interesting head gear to make it work for you. This style will work well with everything you are wearing this Diwali.hairstyles for Diwali 03For a bigger event where you want to look your absolute best, try a twist on the long, open hair look. A little extra wavy with a few strands pulled back to give the appearance of neatness and elegance, this hairstyle is very simple to achieve and yet very interesting to look at. Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor both wear this look, but differently. Sonam has opted for a middle parting which goes with the slight vintage hints of her saree, whereas Kareena has gone for a more playful side pin. Chitrangadha on the other hand, has created a very sensual look with pretty much the same concept. Her hair is teased and pinned back at the crown, while the rest cascades over her shoulders. It totally works for her look and adds a beautiful smolder. Take your pick depending upon your face type and your choice of apparel.

Now let’s talk about buns. If you think about it, you will realize there is no more fashionable yet practical hairstyle than a bun. But buns don’t have to be boring and aunty-type, if you look at Deepika’s bun you will know what I mean. An ever-so-slightly messy bun with the hair at the crown pulled back in a voluminous and stylish way, works so perfectly with her chosen look. For a much younger look, look no further than the fashionista of our generation- Sonam Kapoor. Tousled, wavy hair with an elaborately styled fringe make her look jaw-droppingly beautiful. If you are looking for experimentation, try this! A much simpler way to style your regular bun is by pulling it over to one side or adding a maang tikka as an accessory.

I know braids would seem like an unconventional choice when it comes to ethnic wear, but who wants to be conventional? I think Deepika’s braid is absolutely hot. Pulled straight back but with a little extra volume, this hairstyle suddenly becomes extremely interesting. This would probably be the best choice if you are going to face a long day of celebrations. You could also opt for a fishtail braid with a few loose tendrils to go for a much younger hairstyle.

Here’s wishing you a Diwali full of good hair days!
