Tired of unwanted body hair? Here are 5 beauty remedies based on home ingredients that can get you out of embarrassing situations!
There is nothing more embarrassing for a woman than unwanted body hair. While we can blame genes and hormones for various degrees of being hirsute, we do have to get rid of the unsightly fur. Woes be gone! Forget the painful and messy waxing sessions or methods that cause more damage than good (in-growth, rashes, wrinkling and saggy skin). Here are a few tried and tested home remedies that you can do in the privacy of your home to get squeaky clean, silky smooth and hairless skin. But please be patient with these home remedies – since there are no chemicals involved, the results will take time to show.
Banana is a natural ingredient that can be used to remove unwanted hair from the body when mixed with a roughening ingredient like oatmeal that will help in exfoliating your skin. The banana will help in making your skin soft and supple and oatmeal will act as the cleanser for your skin. Both combine to give unique and effective results. Mash a ripe banana into a smooth lump less paste and add two teaspoons of oatmeal and mix well. Apply a generous amount of this paste on the unwanted hair and rub in circular motion for a minute. Allow this paste to sit for at least 20 minutes. Wash off with water. Repeat this treatment at least twice a week to get rid of hair on your body and face.
2. Turmeric and Chickpea:
Chickpea flour or gram flour (besan) has been used traditionally by Indian mothers to keep their child’s skin soft and clean. They use the gram flour mixed with turmeric, water or milk to apply to the skin to remove unwanted hair growth and to treat the skin problems. Mix a half a cup each of chickpea flour, turmeric and fresh cream to form a paste. The consistency should be that of pakoda batter. If it is thicker, dilute with a little fresh milk. Apply this paste on the body from where you want to remove the hair. Keep the paste on the skin for 30 minutes or till the paste is completely dried. Moisten your hands and rub off the mask in the opposite direction of hair growth with your hands. Wash the area with lukewarm water. Repeat the process every alternate day for a month for unbelievable results.
3. Thanaka and Safflower:
Thanaka is a very popular tree in Myanmar whose bark is used for cosmetic purposes. Thanaka powder is a natural body hair inhibitor that will help in easily removing unwanted hair. It is yellowish in color and when mixed with safflower will help in easily getting rid of unwanted hair on the face and other body parts easily. Safflower oil cleanses your skin and makes it really soft. Take thanaka powder in a bowl and add enough safflower oil to make it into a thick paste. Apply this mixture on the concerned areas and leave overnight. Wash off with water the next morning. Use this mixture every day for two to three months to see effective results.
4. Onion and Basil:
Onion removes unwanted hair from the roots when mixed with basil leaves. The trick here is to find out the thin transparent membranes of onion skin that lies between the onion layers. Take the thin onion membranes from two medium sized onions and crush it with 10 to 12 basil leaves to make a paste. Leave this paste on the body for half an hour and wash off. Repeating this procedure thrice a week will ensure you are hairless for life!
5. White Pepper and Camphor:
This method is particularly suitable for those who have coarse hair on their legs. Since this will smart a little, we recommend you don’t use it on your face and delicate areas of the body or if you have sensitive skin. Take two tablespoons each of camphor and white pepper powder (best to grind it at home) and mix with a spoon of almond oil. Apply this on the legs and let it rest for 15 minutes. Wash it off with water and you will hair is also literally washed off! Due to the strong nature of the ingredients, try not to undergo this therapy more than once a week.

- Drinking spearmint tea will help in bringing down the androgen levels in your body and thereby help in getting rid of unwanted hair. Simply boil and steep 5-6 fresh spearmint leaves in a cup of water and drink this tea twice daily
- Eating phytoestrogen rich foods such as licorice, flax seeds, tofu, alfalfa and brahmi is also very helpful
