Must-have beauty products for a dewy skin care routine!

We may differ in terms of using glossy or matte makeup products, but when it comes to quality of skin, the vote is unanimous for dewy. One look that’s consistently on trend for spring is fresh, “just out of the shower” dewy skin. Dewy, lit-from-within skin not only looks feminine and natural, but plump hydrated skin is a marked sign of youth—something we all want. skincare-routine-01

Attaining the youthful glow requires a solid foundation, which means you shouldn’t skimp on exfoliating, moisturizing, and drinking (a reasonable) amount of water. While most of us know that, as a minimum, we should slap some SPF on our skin before heading out into the day, fewer of us are keyed into the idea that other airborne nanoparticles (like smog, cigarette smoke, soot, pollen, water droplets, and pollutants) contribute to aging skin. This is what causes a layer of literally soot, to coat our skin and make it unhealthy from inside and unsightly from the outside. The result, the skin loses its glow and luminosity. It is important therefore, to follow a skincare routine to regularly cleanse, exfoliate and nourish the largest organ on your body to keep it supple and dewy.skincare-routine-02

Whether you want an elaborate and well-layered routine or prefer more of a minimum fuss, one-and-done technique, here are some products that are a must for a dewy skincare routine.

Prepare to glow like the goddess you are.

1. Cleansing:

Everyone should wash the night’s bacteria and pillow gunk from their faces in the morning. But, for those with oily skin, morning cleansing is a particularly important step. Use a glycolic- or salicylic-acid-spiked cleanser (rather than a cream). Choose a cleanser according to your skin type to clean up all dirt and residue from your skin.

2. Exfoliation:

Nothing can make your skin look dull than dead skin. Remove dead skin from the face and rest of the body regularly. To wake up dull skin, cleanse with an exfoliating scrub, which will help slough off dead skin cells to not only reveal a rosier complexion but also create a smoother canvas for makeup. Makeup will go on better on buffed skin. Use a ready-made or a home-made scrub at least once a week. If you wear foundation daily, it is advised to mildly scrub your skin at least twice a week. Use a body scrub at least once a week on your entire body, especially arms and legs – whether it is a peel, scrub or a glycolic-infused cleanser.

3. Toning:

Toners are most helpful and necessary for people with oily or acne-prone skin, or for people who want extra cleansing after wearing makeup or other heavy skin products such as sun screen. The toner will help reveal glowing healthy skin. Applying a small amount of toner to a soft cotton ball or pad and gently blotting and wiping your face with it will remove oil and give the appearance of smaller pores. Toners can help close pores and tighten cell gaps after cleansing, thus reducing the penetration of impurities and environmental contaminants into the skin.

4. Moisturizing:

Moisturizing is the most important element of your skincare routine. An illuminating moisturizer might seem just like a radiant primer or other highlighting product, it’s so much more than that. Not only does it give your skin an instant glow, it hydrates the skin all day long. It’s like a big gulp of water for your skin. If you’re skin is feeling extra dry, then you might want to try heavier hydration. An essential oil can make your face brighter and help fight acne, especially before going to bed in the night.

Introducing a serums or a nourishing cream will benefit your seasonally distressed skin greatly and give that extra-special glow. Those with oily skin tend to shy away from “hydrating” products. A serum is the best product for these people, since a moisturizer will just up the grease factor. If you’re very oily, you may need a little moisturizer at night but not typically during the day. A highlighter is a great way to add some much needed glow to your cheeks and face, without making it seem oily or over the top. Apply a pearly highlighter on the high points of the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, brow bone and chin using very light strokes. Blend with fingertips. Look for shades of pink, peach and coral, as these will make the glow look more natural and give you a look of healthy flushed cheeks.

    • No. Both the products work differently on the skin. A moisturizer is used to prevent dryness in the skin and a serum has a higher concentration of performance ingredients meant for use under a moisturizer. A moisturizer has larger molecules than a serum. This means that a moisturizer will not penetrate the skin as far as a serum will. While serums deposit nutrients, moisturizers are meant to deposit moisture and hydration your skin.
